Is Air Compressor Failure Avoidable? If You Check These Three Things, The Answer Could Be "Yes!"

Laurie Washington

The air compressor is the most important part of your home's central air conditioning system — and when it fails, you're left in miserable conditions until you can get your air compressor services tech in to help. Air compressor failure may seem very sudden — not to mention incredibly inconvenient if it happens in the middle of the blazing summer months. But, if you know what to look for, your air compressor usually sends you messages that it's not in great shape before it actually fails completely. By looking for these signs of impending failure, you'll know when to call your AC service provider so you can keep the cool air flowing without interruption. Here are the three signs that air compressor failure is in your future unless you take action now.

Unusual Noises

Unusual noises, often in the form of extra-loud start up, clicking, banging, or clattering, are a major warning sign of impending air compressor failure. Often, the loud noises mean that you've got a problem like a failing electrical relay or a loose fan motor. The good news is that the loud noise is often caused by one easily fixable component. If you call your AC technician now, they can repair it before the compressor actually fails.

Insufficient Cooling

When your air conditioner is blowing air, but it's not as cool as it should be, it could mean you have a refrigerant leak. While a simple leak might not seem like it's not a big deal, it can actually lead to air compressor failure over time. Too little refrigerant means the compressor has to work constantly in an attempt to fuel the system, and this can lead to complete failure eventually. If you take action now, as soon as you notice a drop-off in cooling efficiency, your technician can repair the leak and often save your compressor.

Less Airflow

If you've noticed less airflow in your home, the problem might be simpler than you think. Check your air filters to look for dirt buildup. With a clogged or almost completely clogged air filter, the damage can spread to the ducts and beyond. The compressor has to work virtually around the clock because the filter keeps air from cooling your home. Eventually this could mean compressor failure.  In many cases, something as simple as regular air filter changes every 30 days can prevent air compressor failure. Ask your AC repair tech for recommendations.

Your AC repair tech can provide not only air compressor services for complete failure, but also less complex (and cheaper) repairs like those above. Reach out to your technician for help now if you've noticed any of these issues in your home.

Industrial Equipment: Now and Later

Take a look around at the industrial equipment in your facility. Hopefully it is all working and in good shape. If you want to keep it that way, you will need to provide it with the proper care. Every machine has somewhat different maintenance requirements, but in most cases, some lubrication and an annual inspection by a qualified repair professional will go a long way. Here's the thing: you can't be in this industry without the right equipment. So rather than spending more on new equipment, it is wise to care for the stuff you've got.
